Richard Feyman Quotations

“It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with the experiment, it's wrong”

“Our imagination is stretched to the utmost, not, as in fiction, to imagine things which are not really there, but just to comprehend those things which 'are' there.”

Developmental Behaviourial Modelling DBM

"We are all modellers in a naturalistic way. We all have our models and our own way of building them. What if we understood more about these models and how we build them and developed new, more effective ways to change them? This would involve product, process and principle. This has been the aim of DBM."

Simultaneous Thinking -

by Ed Grimshaw

One of the main issues with problem solving in organisations is that each problem is dealt with in isolation. Then each solution is processed in a single sequence. The sequence often undermines the solution.

Take for instance a hospital trying make improvements on a ward or in a theatre. Initiatives will be introduced one by one to improve quality of care, increase productivity, improve patient safety, develop employee morale, reduce infections, improve patient waiting times and so on and so forth. The issue is that often one initiative undermines or compromises another intiative so the implementation overall is ineffective and inefficient.

This type of thinking does not just happen with initiatives but also within the day to day decision making itself. Front line staff are left being pulled in different ways depending where the current focus is by those directing and managing.

In a future article we will explore the skill of thinking simultaneously as against sequential thinking.

Systemic Business Modelling
Many consultancies offer fixed prescribed solutions for a variety of organisations. Business Modelling uses a process with no fixed assumptions but takes each organisation as unique in terms of its requirements and the potential solutions available.

One of key aspects of systemic consultancy is the dynamic relationship between the organisation, its management and the consultant engaged.
