Richard Feyman Quotations

“It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with the experiment, it's wrong”

“Our imagination is stretched to the utmost, not, as in fiction, to imagine things which are not really there, but just to comprehend those things which 'are' there.”

Developmental Behaviourial Modelling DBM

"We are all modellers in a naturalistic way. We all have our models and our own way of building them. What if we understood more about these models and how we build them and developed new, more effective ways to change them? This would involve product, process and principle. This has been the aim of DBM."

NLP in Business (Business Modelling)

by Ed Grimshaw

Having attended a number of NLP Business Practitioner Trainings, many of them simply transfer the NLP Practitioner syllabus into a business context without much in terms of fresh models or NLP modelling that have been developed from the business environment itself.

Whilst much of the NLP is useful and relevant, it will not take the NLP Practitioner much further than they already know. A Business practitioner training for instance will have modelled entrepreneurs, consultants, marketers and people who have succeeded in business.

Using therapists and hypnotists will provide useful information but not much directly applicable to business. If some of what NLP is about is modelling excellence, then we need current excellent models to model. In selecting our subjects we need to be clear about the skill sets we are modelling. For instance, not everyone would be interested in the ruthlessness of RyanAir Boss Michael O’Leary but in certain industries and environments that’s a great skill to have. He certainly has an ability to handle the media. Contrast O’Leary with Gerry Robinson the latter day troubleshooter who appears on various TV programmes.

So here are the modelling aspects that would be useful.

  • How the business person relates to the business world.
    • Behaviourally
    • Skills
    • Belief and Values
    • Identity – Who they are?
    • How they model and what models they use?
    • Personal Strategies
    • Business Models
    • Business Acuity
    • What they attend to and notice.
    • MotivationWhat environment their skill sets are relevant to?
    • Personal Boundaries

Where applicable & where not applicableHow can their skills be adapted to completely different environment? (sport, therapy ,education etc.)

The ability to model a subject accurately and with precision is invaluable and the model that is the product is saleable as a training programme.

Systemic Business Modelling
Many consultancies offer fixed prescribed solutions for a variety of organisations. Business Modelling uses a process with no fixed assumptions but takes each organisation as unique in terms of its requirements and the potential solutions available.

One of key aspects of systemic consultancy is the dynamic relationship between the organisation, its management and the consultant engaged.
